Double braided nylon rope from Lift Sling Rigging Co., Ltd combines a braided load-bearing nylon core    with a tightly braided nylon cover, giving you high tensile strength, outstanding abrasion resistance    and excellent shock absorption in a single rope. Manufactured in our Taizhou, Jiangsu facility in    diameters from 6 mm to 92 mm, our nylon double braid rope is fully spliceable, stays firm and round    under load, and can be supplied in custom colours, lengths and end terminations for marine, offshore,    fishing, towing and general industrial use.

What Is a Double Braided Nylon Rope?

A double braid rope — also written double-braid or braid-on-braid — is built in two layers. The inner    layer is a braided nylon core that carries the working load. The outer layer is a braided nylon jacket    that protects that core from abrasion, sunlight and contamination. Because both layers are braided    rather than twisted, the finished rope stays firm and round, resists kinking and rotation, and can be    spliced directly into its own core to form a neat, full-strength eye.

Core and cover work as a system. The cover is laid slightly tighter so that it grips the core and shares    part of the load, while the core remains the primary strength member. This is why a double braid    construction gives the highest tensile strength of the commonnylon rope constructions for a given diameter, and why it    is the preferred choice wherever a rope has to run through a block, a fairlead or a winch.

Nylon (polyamide) is the most elastic of the common rope fibres. That elasticity is the reason nylon    double braid rope is specified for anchor lines, mooring lines and tow lines: the rope stretches under a    sudden load and absorbs the shock instead of passing it straight through to the vessel, the load or the    deck hardware.

Construction and Manufacturing

• Core: braided high-tenacity nylon, 12-strand construction, carrying the working load.

• Cover: tightly braided nylon jacket, balanced lay for a firm, round, snag-resistant finish.

• Yarn: nylon 6 or nylon 66 high-tenacity multifilament, UV-stabilised grades available.

• Spliceable: both layers are braided, so the rope can be spliced into a smooth eye with no sharp transition.

• Torque-free: the braided construction does not rotate, kink or hockle under load.

• Rot-proof: unaffected by water, rot and mildew in the normal marine environment.

12 Strand Nylon Double Braid Rope — Breaking Strength and Working Load

The table below gives the typical linear density, minimum breaking strength and recommended working load of    our nylon double braid rope by diameter. Working load is calculated at a 5:1 safety factor, that is, one    fifth of the minimum breaking strength. Figures are reference values for new rope and should be confirmed    against the test report of the batch supplied.

Reference values for new, unused rope. Age, wear, sunlight exposure, knots and splices will further reduce these figures. Other diameters and lengths are available on request.

Customisation and Options

• Diameter: 6 mm to 92 mm as standard, other sizes on request.

• Colour: white, black, red, blue, yellow, green, orange, brown, or to your colour reference.

• Length: standard 200 m or 220 m coils, or cut to your required length.

Quality Control and Standards

Our nylon ropes are produced and tested against the following standards:

• GB/T 21328 — Fibre ropes, general specification (equivalent to ISO 9554).

• GB/T 8834 — Determination of certain physical and mechanical properties of fibre ropes (equivalent to ISO 2307).

• ISO 1140 — Fibre ropes, polyamide, 3-, 4-, 8- and 12-strand ropes (construction and designation reference).

Batch test reports can be supplied on request, and third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TUV or your nominated agency) can be arranged before shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between double braid and 8- or 12-strand nylon rope?

An 8- or 12-strand rope is a single-layer braid with no separate cover. Double braid adds a braided jacket     over a braided core, which gives better abrasion resistance, a firmer round shape and a longer service life     in abrasive or marine conditions.

Should I choose nylon or polyester double braid rope?

Choose nylon when you need elasticity and shock absorption, for example anchor lines, mooring and towing.     Choose polyester when you need low stretch and maximum wet strength retention. We manufacture both, and we     are glad to advise on which suits your application.

What safety factor do your working loads use?

The working loads in the table above are calculated at a 5:1 safety factor. For overhead lifting or     personnel-related applications a higher factor is normally required — tell us the application and we will     specify accordingly.

Can the rope be spliced on site?

Yes. A double braid splice is formed into the rope's own core and keeps a high proportion of the original     rope strength when it is made correctly. We can also supply every rope pre-spliced with eyes or thimbles,     and we produce related products such as     fully braided seamless endless nylon rope and eye-to-eye hitch cord.
